At school we have a class called coaching, and that's where we really dig deeper into details that we don't have time for during the real dance classes. In modern coaching we have for every lesson now gone over where each and everyone's "curve" position is. A curve in modern dance is when the back is bent over the pelvis, usually with relaxed arms and head. You can do a front, side and back curve. My teacher calls us quasimodo when we do it, to put it in a clearer context. What is really important though is that your head cannot go below the hips, and it's not supereasy to find in the middle of a dance and you have to get there from a swing or whatever. SUPERNERDY, I know, but with all this training you do realize how important it is to know what it is you're doing so that you don't injure yourself. It's a bit funny though that we practice getting a maximum curve in our back so much when our ballet teacher tells us that we should walk around with a stick from one shoulder to the other to practice our stance...
