We went to look at my teacher Johannes Härtl's dance piece "Other World." See about him, projects and his jobs here at his website. It was about what you experience when you see the light on the way to death. He used a mixture between techno beats and futuristic sounds. The dancing was both modern, fast and sometimes a bit non-dancy to me (meaning that there were no specifik dance patterns but more exploring moves). It made me think about where the line is between a performance art and dance. It's hard to describe where the limit is between the two, but sometimes a piece can contain so many simple steps and have a really deep meaning, but for me that doesn't mean that it's dance. I can't put my finger on the specific differences, and I'm not saying that his work was not dancing, it definately was, but it was a somewhat mixture which I found very interesting. Where the fine line is (if you now have to point it out) I think is different for every person, since there are no guidelines there is neither right or wrong when it comes to art. But I like when a performance awakes thoughts about different subjects, and this time it came to me the difference between performance art and how you can use it to create other ways to see things.
